A recent fundraising analysis has revealed that the online fundraising efforts for former President Donald Trump experienced notable surges following his two previous indictments, though the increase was more pronounced after the initial indictment.
Trump’s campaign proudly highlighted enhanced fundraising outcomes after each indictment. However, a fresh report originating from the primary online fundraising platform for Republicans, WinRed, elucidates how Trump’s supporters exhibited more fervor subsequent to his first indictment in Manhattan, which pertained to an alleged hush-money arrangement, as opposed to the subsequent federal indictment tied to the mishandling of classified materials.
The recently submitted report to the Federal Election Commission by WinRed demonstrates that Trump amassed approximately $13.5 million in the week ensuing the indictment by a Manhattan grand jury on March 30. This indictment pertained to purported payments made to an adult film star during his 2016 presidential campaign.
Remarkably, Trump’s most prolific day for online fundraising within his entire campaign transpired on April 4, coinciding with his arraignment in Manhattan. On that day, he garnered in excess of $3.9 million.
Following this, about two months later, Trump encountered another surge in online fundraising subsequent to being federally indicted for his alleged mishandling of classified documents.
During the week following this second indictment, Trump’s campaign, in conjunction with his joint fundraising committee, succeeded in raising $5.8 million online—a sum approximately half the magnitude of the proceeds generated following his initial indictment.
Additionally, Trump’s appearance in court for his arraignment in Miami on June 13 also triggered a rise in fundraising activity, as his supporters contributed $1.3 million to bolster his campaign efforts.
This trend of fundraising spikes following legal developments underscores the dynamics of online fundraising within the realm of political campaigns.
